COVID19 - Important Update

HJT Temple re-opening June 12 - Please read the entire article for important communication about visiting the temple.

Dear Devotees:

We hope this e-mail finds you safe and in good health. We want to sincerely thank you all for the enthusiastic support of all our on-line programs while temple remained closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. With Allegheny County entering the Green phase, the Temple Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees have decided on partial and phased re-opening of our beloved temple.

The health and safety of our community and our priests are our prime concerns. With that in mind, in initial phase, beginning June 12, the temple will be open only on following days and hours:

Fridays: 6.00 PM-8.00 PM
Saturdays: 2.00 PM-6.00 PM
Sundays: 2.00 PM-6.00 PM

As of now, the temple will remain open only on above mentioned days and hours. All other times, temple will remain closed. We will keep you all informed on any further changes to temple hours.

Prior to opening, the temple is being thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to minimize the risks. In addition, following strict guidelines will be followed:
  • Only one temple entrance (back/handicap entrance) will be open.
  • Masks must be worn prior to entering the temple. Temple will not provide masks, devotees must bring their own masks. NO MASKS NO ENTRANCE rule will be strictly followed.
  • Volunteers will be stationed at the door to take the temperature of each devotee. If your temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you will not be allowed to enter.
  • Devotees will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire regarding their health.
  • If you have fever or symptoms of infection (cough/shortness of breath/vomiting/diarrhea) or any chronic illness, for your own safety, we respectfully ask you to refrain from visiting the temple.
  • Devotees must use hand sanitizer prior to entering and leaving the temple. Hand sanitizer will be available at the door.
  • Only 4 families (maximum 16 people) will be allowed in the temple at a time. Other devotees will wait outside in the car for their turn. While inside, social distancing must be followed.
  • So that everyone gets an opportunity for Darshan, devotees will be allowed only 15 minutes inside the temple. No private aartis/abhisheks/poojas will be permitted.
  • Kindly refrain from entering the inside of individual temples.
  • Kindly refrain from touching the idols/murtis.
  • No prasad or charnamrut will be offered by priests.
  • Devotees are not allowed to bring any offerings from home.
  • There will be two priests on duty.
  • To reduce your wait time to enter the temple, appointments in 15 minutes slots can be made by calling the temple office at 724-325-2054. If you do not have an appointment, we will ask you to wait outside for your turn.
  • Daily on-line aartis and poojas will continue. If you would like a private pooja by Zoom, please contact one of the priests or the temple office.

Please know that above guidelines are being instituted for everyone’s safety. We respectfully ask the community for their help in following above guidelines.

This is a rapidly evolving situation and the community will be kept informed of further changes to temple hours by e-mail. If you have any questions please contact the temple office, the president or any members of the executive committee.

Again thank you for your patience and support during these trying times.

We pray for the continued good health and well-being of our community and our country.

Sincerely,

The Executive Committee & The Board of Trustees
